What the experts said
There is no single best method to prevent jowls.
Good skincare including sunblock, retinol products to increase skin elasticity, and chemical peels can decrease jowl formation or mitigate their appearance.
Filling the preauricular area (in front of the ears) can pull back adjacent tissue and decrease drooping.
Jowls form in part due to fat loss in adjacent tissue.
Energy products such as Sofwave and Thermage create new collagen and provide minimal lifting of the skin in the jowl region.
Ablative skin resurfacing techniques include ablative CO2 laser, ablative erbium laser, and deep chemical peels such as the Hetter peel and phenol peel.
Lower face and neck lift (mini or full) will eliminate jowls quickly.
Jowls will start to form again after surgical lifting because aging is preprogrammed and cannot be escaped.
These interventions can decrease the severity of jowl formation even though aging continues.
